Koh Phangan – Best Beach Party in Asia

Koh Phangan, Thailand is best known for its monthly full moon parties that attract a huge crowd of nature lovers, partygoers and wanderers from all over the world. This island in the Southern Gulf of Thailand was once known primarily as King Chulalongkorn’s favourite vacation getaway in the country.

This is the kind of place where you could slurp your booze buckets without interruption until dawn, then nurse terrible hangovers while snoozing on white hot sand. Aside from partying and drinking, this island has a lot more to offer to its visitors. There are beautiful beaches for swimming and snorkelling, a variety of outdoor activities for all ages and surprisingly, even yoga and meditation in the quieter parts of the island.

Aside from the abovementioned activities, you could also play archery, scuba diving, hiking, Muay Thai and other water sports. Also a lot of things to see and explore and the island like Than Sadet Ko Phangan National Park. The park is named after the river Than Sadet. You could visit the beautiful waterfalls and lookouts in the interior of the island. There is also a gorgeous Chinese Temple overlooking Chalok Lam Bay on the road between Thong Sala and Chalok Lam.

Full Moon Party

The best time to visit the island is during December-March when it’s not rainy and the water level is not that high and the water is at its clearest and cleanest state which makes it good for swimming. To get to Koh Phangan, you could take a bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani where you could board a ferry to Thong Sala on Koh Phangan.
To get a taste of the local food, the most authentic and the cheapest option is to head to local restaurants. But if you’re craving for western or other cuisines, a variety of restaurants do offer them as well.

You can usually find accommodation at the pier when you arrive or you could stay at Haad Rin or other beaches in the island. However, during Full moon period it is worth booking ahead unless you want to sleep on the beach or spend the night in one of the more expensive lodgings. Visitors in Koh Phangan have plenty of resorts to choose from that could caters to almost everyone’s budget.

People go to Koh Phangan for the party. There are numerous bars that lined Haad Rin beach and local stores around that area are also selling beers and buckets of alcoholic drinks. There are also fire dancing shows in various areas of Haad Rin and be sure to check it out as well.
